You know what the worst part of any AssCreed game is? The horrible, convoluted sci-fi garbage that passes for an overarching meta narrative when it’s not ruining the immersion. You know which part of AssCreed isn’t featured in the latest gameplay trailer for AssCreed 4 ‘Black Flag’? Well, what do you expect after the last one basically dumped the least charismatic protagonist in AAA, in favor of Some Other Dude™.
At this point I really hope the entire game takes place in alt history pirate times, and the word Animus isn’t mentioned for a good, long while. On a more positive note, we’ve got a fancy new gameplay trailer to look at, which shows off all of the fun activities that one can do as a pirate with a pair of muskets and more blades than a Wesley Snipes movie. As long as the game can deliver on an interesting narrative and some fun piratey subplots, without venturing into its own AssCove, this could be the return to form that the franchise needs. The trailer certainly leaves me cautiously optimistic, but I’m not about to hold my breath until we know a bit more about it as it approaches its October release.
