Gamepass keeps adding new things, and when they added Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island, it caught my eye immediately. It has a cozy attractive art style, Greek mythology theme, and a big tagline “THE GODS ARE REAL, THEY’VE JUST BEEN ON VACATION” (yup all caps!) along with the intriguing description of being a ‘Friend Em Up’ Adventure.
Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island follows Alex on an adventure gone awry, a shipwreck of the Argo II lands her on a mysterious island with lots to uncover and a modern spin on familiar Greek myth.

Ambrosia island seems empty at first, but you’ll slowly be introduced to a cast of Greek Gods who are missing their memories. Its your job to uncover what happened and why. This is achieved with the power of friendship of course. To increase friendship each god requires performing a Favour – Hermes for example wants you to feed the gulls scattered across the island. Friendship filled, Alex then must find missing items using a radar signal and then return them to unlock the Gods memories and their next friendship level.
The relaxed cadence and fun but not challenging tasks feels like the game is asking you to take a step back from the hectic hustle and bustle of our everyday lives and to just slow down, explore, and help others in the process. There are various collectables to find and an intriguing story which makes you really care about the characters you are meeting and building friendships with. This game is all about uncovering the mystery so I am keeping this super vague to allow for the discovery and enjoyment you deserve.

The island itself is sectioned off by gates which need medallions and a very basic unlock puzzle to complete to open. New areas are home to new Gods with new Favour request and memories to find. This design doesn’t feel restrictive and adds a sense of progression to the game as you are improving the island with each favour you complete.
Polygon Treehouse is an art-led Indie studio and were the Colors of Indie ‘First Place‘ winner for Mythwrecked and I can see why. The music and art style is relaxed and really adds to the cosy feeling, the music changes through the day to night cycle keeping it fresh and not feeling repetitive. The character design is endearing, even though the characters often look like they have seen some things; the world has a simple beauty to it. Discovering mysteries and secrets feels seamless and purposeful as they are built into the island and are only revealed when the time is right.

Mythwrecked is worth spending your time on and has an interesting take on Greek mythos with a modern twist. This game is short and sweet – my playthrough took just under 6 hours, not rushing, and I got all 32 achievements. I enjoyed playing Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island and if the art, theme, or genre interests you then give it a play too. It is out now on Steam, Switch, and Xbox, and its currently free with Gamepass.
